Go slower, stay longer

Two days in one neighbourhood beats five sights in five districts. Our travel guides are built around walking, eating and noticing.

Editor's note

The best part is usually unplanned

We plan travel like we plan rooms: a few decisions made carefully, then space left open. One anchor per day — a market, a museum, a long lunch — is enough. The rest of the time, walk.

This is also why our travel guides stay short on lists. We will tell you which neighbourhood to stay in, what time to leave, and where to be when the light turns. We will not send you to eleven restaurants in a single afternoon.

How we test

Packing rules we actually use

  • ColourEverything matches four other things.
  • ShoesTwo pairs: one walkable, one presentable.
  • FabricMerino and cotton over anything that needs ironing.
  • SpaceLeave a quarter of the bag empty on the way out.
